The worst thing about being a Healer was the Smallpaws that didn't eat their herbs. For days on end, Frozen Pool had to treat Morning Mist to make sure that he didn't have hypothermia, but the ignorant Smallpaw kept refusing. He had actually considered giving up and letting the small tom die, but knew that he couldn't do that, no matter how stupid the patient. Today he was going to try once more to feed the tom his medicine, and today he was going to succeed. Grudgingly, he added a bit of nectar to the mixture, knowing it made it smell and taste better as well as helping weaker cats to swallow. The lavender and juniper berries should also help, but the bitter taste of lamb's ear and ragwort quenched the sweeter tastes. Grumbling, the large tom wrapped up the herbs into a bundle and carried it over to the nursery. Stepping inside, he quickly spotted his patient and pushed the bundle towards him. "Are you finally ready to eat these? I added some nectar so that you won't die. Do you feel as cold today?" After speaking, the Healer sat back and glared at the Smallpaw while waiting fir an answer if a fully grown cat had decided to take a duck in the river, it would have been an easy heal. But any cat younger than five moons or to old to take care of themself was prone to have lasting effects.

"Uh-uh. They taste like crow-fo--" Morning Mist protested but broke off into a fit of coughing. "D-do I have t-to?" He whimpered after the coughing fit subsided, shivering in the cold morning. He crawled out of his nest towards the bundle and licked it up slowly. "It tastes h-horrible. When c-can I fish?" He whimpered, crawling back into his practically destroyed nest and curling up, occasionally coughing with spasms shaking his small body.

"Of course you have to eat them mouse brain! Why would I give them to you if you didn't have to eat them?" Frozen Pool hissed irritably, not showing any signs of sympathy as Morning Mist's body racked with coughing. It was his own fault for refusing to eat the herbs that were given to him. The Healer shoved the bundle of herbs a whisker away from the Smallpaw's face, growling slightly. He pressed a paw to his back, gentle enough not to hurt, but strong enough to keep the young tom in place. "If you want to stop coughing and live, eat the herbs! Unless you want to be in this position all day." His voice was angry, but not quite threatening. He wanted no harm to come to any cat, especially one so young, but he couldn't do that if his patient didn't listen. Maybe that tom from the Tribe of the Stars should come down and tell Smallpaws to take their medicine instead of coming with prophecies and any other stupid reason. He knew what it was like to have a cat die because they weren't treated correctly, and he was determined not to have it happen again. If it did though, he wouldn't be quite as sad, because everything that went wrong was the 'victims' fault. He was the one who jumped in a freezing river and refused to do anything to get better.

"But they taste horrible..... When will I be a Softpaw? I have been in here for mooooooons." Morning Mist complained, licking up the herbs and weakly trying to wiggle out from under Frozen Pool's paw that held him in place. "I wanna sleep." He whimpered, giving up and closing his eyes.

"You'll be a Softpaw when Rising Stream wants you to be a Softpaw. Good job eating your herbs," Frozen Pool huffed, tone not congratulating in the slightest. He took his paw off of Morning Mist's back, allowing the Smallpaw to be free once again. "You can go to sleep soon. Have you been cold or have had trouble falling asleep since you nearly drowned?" He hoped that he wasn't contradicted with an equally grumpy answer. This was information that he needed to know to properly heal the tom, and he wasn't sure that he would be able to resist smacking him across the face if he was given anything but a straightforward answer.

"W-what do you think." Morning Mist shivered, weakly crawling back into his nest and curling up into a shivering ball of fur.

"We'll your either cold or terrified out of you mind, and though the second one seems more likely, based on your remark I;m going to assume your still cold," Frozen Pool replied, a growl lacing his words. It took all of his will power not to throw Morning Mist into the river and this time not have a Shjarpclaw save him. But now that he at least knew of the Smallpaw's frigidness, he knew more about what to do next. He just needed a bit more information. He slammed a paws whisker away from the small tom, hoping to simultaneously scare and grab to attention of the Smallpaw. Voice menacing, he hissed. "Are you having any trouble sleeping? Also, do you have a living mother?"

"S-she left the t-tribe with my father when I c-could eat m-mice." Morning Mist whimpered, turning away from Frozen Pool and ignoring his other question about sleeping.

"Ugh, that makes this harder. Not that you aren't already hard enough to work with," Frozen Pool hissed in frustration, not showing any of his sympathy. He had needed to kill his own father, so a mother running away didn't seem like too much. "I guess I'll need to find a queen to help you. By the time I'm back I want you to be able to answer my question about sleeping, or I swear I will hit you." With those words, the large tabby padded away to a group of socializing queens. He hated waving to work with them almost as much as the Smallpaw, but there was no way he was spending any more time in here than he absolutely needed to. "Hey, are any off you willing to help a sick Smallpaw who most likely hates you?"
OOC: Want an NPC or my character Badger's Stripe as the queen?

OOC: Whichever is easier for you. I really need to make more characters D:
Morning Mist was asleep and was thrashing around in his nest, scattering reeds everywhere in his fitful sleep.

OOC: I guess I'll use Badger's Stripe
"I'll help." Frozen Pool recognized Badger's Stripe as she stepped out from the group. Many of the other queens looked at their children or at Morning Mist and walked away, so she was his best bet. He knew that one of her Smallpaws had died before the tribes split apart, so that was probably why she was so willing to help a different one live. He nodded at her and walked back over to his patient, and sighed when he saw the thrashing body. That answered his question about sleeping. He turned to the queen and sighed. "You're the lucky winner who gets to hold down Morning Mist when he sleeps. Just make sure he doesn't hurt himself and try to warm him up a little." After he recieved a nod in reply, Frozen Pool hurried toward the Healer's den to get some poppy seeds. Those were obviously going to be needed. Badger's Stripe padded over to the Morning MIst's side, purring softly in his ear to soothe him. She had taken care of two fitful Smallpaw's before, so she knew what to do. She gently placed one of her paws to hold his legs down and curled up around him, still purring quietly.

Morning Mist still kept trying to kick and move around in his fevered dreams, unaware of anything in the real world.

Fairly soon, Frozen Pool returned, a leaf holding poppy seeds between his jaws. He noticed the Morning Mist trying to squirm out of Badger Stripe's hold, and rolled his blue eyes. Even in sleep the tiny tom couldn't cooperate. Well, he needed to eat these, and would have to be woken up to do it. The Healer stepped forward and nudged the Smallpaw none to gently. "Wake up, you lazy bones. There's more stuff for you to eat." The queen glared at him, obviously not approving of referring to him in such a manner.

Morning Mist didn't wake up even though Frozen Pool basically pushed him out of the nest but instead kept squirming around in his sleep.
